A Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) contributes to AHF by  providing case management services to STI and HIV positive individuals and their sex/needle-sharing partners. Ensure that all preliminary HIV-positive persons arrage for a confirmatory HIV test and results disclosure. DIS counsels individuals who suffer from a STI/HIV regarding the nature and control of their disease and educates these individuals on risk reduction techniques and behaviors.

 

A Disease Intervetion Specialist enhances the reputation of AHF by  ensuring that all preliminary HIV-positive persons receive appropriate client-centered health and social service referrals, consistent with standard of care.

AHF has a collaborative organizational structure where staff are accountable to multiple leaders.

 

The Disease Intervention Specialist will work as a part of a close-knit team to locate cases and contacts of sexually transmitted disease and HIV by interviewing clients to determine contacts, locating and tracing contacts, and convicing them to voluntarily see diagnosis and treatment. DIS also serve as a liaison between the agency and local Public Health Departments to meet all mandated evaluation and reporting requirements.
