YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO OUR SUCCESS!

A PrEP Navigator plays a vital role at AHF and SSHC by assisting individuals in accessing and adhering to Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), a medication designed to prevent HIV infection. This support includes providing culturally sensitive and accurate information about PrEP in a positive, non-judgmental manner to individuals in the African American community who are at risk for HIV.

In this role, it is essential to have strong skills in community outreach, client engagement, program promotion, networking and collaboration, linkage to care, and follow-up. These abilities are crucial for successfully identifying, assessing, and supporting clients as they navigate the process of starting and maintaining PrEP care and treatment.

A solid understanding of HIV transmission and prevention is equally important. You will be responsible for educating clients about HIV and PrEP, how to prevent disease transmission, the HIV testing process, and the significance of knowing their status and the role of PrEP. Since HIV testing is a vital step in PrEP screening, having individuals certified to provide HIV test counseling is a valuable asset.

HIV testing occurs through daily street outreach, events, fixed-site testing, and other non-traditional venues. Flexibility is required, as testing activities may take place during the day, evening, or late night, as well as on weekends.

Your understanding of how HIV/AIDS affects the African American community will improve your ability to coordinate referrals, resources, and timely access to comprehensive medical care and other essential services that meet our clients’ needs.

A PrEP Navigator enhances the reputation of AHF and SSHC by delivering quality service to clients. This includes helping clients identify and address barriers to care, building rapport with the community and members of the AHF/SSHC team, and effectively communicating and supporting the overall mission of the program, teams, and the agency. As a PrEP Navigator, you will serve as a passionate advocate for our key initiatives.

To achieve success as a PrEP Navigator, it is essential to consistently uphold the core values and mission of AHF and SSHC in all professional endeavors. At AHF/SSHC, we pride ourselves on being nimble and able to adapt in dynamic environments, which enables us to provide the best experiences for our clients and our employees.

AHF & SSHC has a collaborative organizational structure where staff are accountable to multiple leaders.  The PrEP Navigator will work as a part of a close-knit team to serve people, provide healthy alternatives, and strengthen communities.

Licenses/ Certifications: HIV Testing Certification is highly preferred.
