The incumbent, reporting to the Provincial Medical Manager and working closely alongside nurses, will be expected to provide expert medical care, advice, diagnosis and treatment of all patients in care at all AHF-supported clinics within the allocated district/subdistrict in the province.
The incumbent must monitor the medical programmes in AHF- supported sites and support the Mentorship & Supervision Roving Team (MSRT) in the identification of opportunities for improvement and in the development of quality improvement plans in all global health strategies in HAST.
The role encompasses a wide range of clinical and leadership responsibilities, including:
Comprehensive Patient Care: Delivering of promotive, preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic services as per the relevant guidelines. Managing communicable (HIV, TB, STIs) and non-communicable diseases using updated clinical protocols. Clinical Governance:
Participating in quality improvement projects, clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and ensuring compliance with clinical guidelines and essential medicine lists. Training & Mentorship:
Providing mentorship and training to clinical and non-clinical teams, and actively participating in continuous professional development (CPD) and education (CME) activities. Rehabilitative & Support Services:
Facilitating referrals, managing social support assessments, and adhering to service delivery protocols. Leadership & Strategy Implementation:
Supporting AHF strategies and programs, developing clinical best practices, and occasionally stepping in as Provincial Medical Manager when needed. Emergency Management:
Responding effectively to emergencies, ensuring appropriate treatment and referrals.
A Medical Officer in South Africa contributes to AHF's mission by providing support to all clinicians through training and mentoring to be able to identify and refer patients with complications early.
This is key to ensuring the provision of quality services which will improve the overall treatment outcomes.
The role of this position is also to identify and manage medical challenges timeously to provide effective solutions to enhance patient care.
The Medical Officer is critical and adds value to AHF as it ensures improved treatment outcomes and quality of life for all patients.

Qualifications:
Qualified Medical Doctor (and valid HPCSA registration) with 3-5 years’ post community service experience in HIV related field and at least 3 years of HAST programme management exposure.
