Today, AIDS Outreach Center (AOC) began as a grassroots organization responding to the HIV epidemic. Since that time, AOC has been a leader in North Texas in the fight against HIV. Annually, 42 staff members provide services and education to over 2,000 people living with HIV and prevention services to over 3,500 people in our community.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Client Services Manager, the Eligibility Specialist provides ongoing eligibility to persons diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Duties include interviewing and fact gathering; maintaining current knowledge of program regulations and procedures; initiates and processes client intake, re-intake, and 6-month recertification including collecting required documentation; identifies needs and makes appropriate referrals in Provide to Client Services Manager and Case Management Supervisor.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs interactive interviews to elicit eligibility information and identify need for assistance and services.
Analyzes financial and eligibility information to determine initial or continuing eligibility for programs and services.
Explains regulations, rules, and policies to clients and apprises them of their rights, responsibilities, and eligibility for participation.
Completes eligibility and resolves discrepancies by securing documentation, medical records, and confirmation from other agencies.
For clients needing Patient Navigators and Case Managers, completes referrals within Provide to Clients Services Manager and Case Management Supervisor.
Visible in lobby at busy times. Assists Front Desk Staff with triaging complex client needs.
Documents service delivery and maintains client records in Provide Enterprise in accordance with AOC Policies & Procedures.
Maintains client confidentiality and abides by HIPAA regulations.
Reports client data and service statistics as needed.
Attends and participates in agency related meetings, retreats, work sessions, and events as requested.
Performs other related duties as assigned by Client Services Manager.
Completes required Department of State Health Services (DSHS) trainings within 3 months of hire date. Complete 15 hours of job-related trainings per year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree in Human Services or related field and 1 year experience; or 3 years experience working in area of social services; working knowledge of HIV/AIDS; computer literate; excellent written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of grief and bereavement; knowledge of medical treatments available for HIV/AIDS; knowledge of family systems; knowledge of cultural/ethnic issues; knowledge of addiction process and behavior; knowledge of community resources; participate in ongoing continuing education activities; knowledge of gay, lesbian and bisexual issues; ability to work with diverse populations; ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner; ability to effectively handle crisis/emergency situation; demonstrates a non-judgmental attitude toward clients, staff and volunteers; ability to discuss sex/sexuality issues in an appropriate manner with clients; ability to adapt quickly to change; valid Texas driver’s license and proven driving record.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS:
Non-exempt; full-time; health, dental, disability and life insurance; vacation and sick time; some evenings and weekends required; some travel required.
