GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

Reporting to the Regional Medical Director, the Nutrition Counselor is a Registered Dietitian who coordinates with the area HIV primary care physicians and agency staff to provide nutritional assessments, education and counseling to clients. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Conduct nutritional assessments in coordination with the clients’ physicians.

Provide nutritional counseling to assist clients in developing plans to implement the best nutritional habits for managing their HIV and other diseases.

Provide ongoing nutritional education.

Assist the Nutrition Center in the selection of food to meet client nutritional needs.

Assist in the delivery of the food supplement services to ensure that clients have access to the nutrition center program in an efficient, cost effective, and client friendly method, utilizing volunteers as an integral part of the procedures.

Screen clients for eligibility food assistance programs, including SNAP and WIC.  Assist clients in applying for programs, as needed.

Participate in orientation and training of Nutrition Center volunteers.

Assist in the food distribution process to ensure that adequate and timely products are available when clients access services, if needed.

Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Current license with the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians required; strong experience providing nutritional support and education to persons living with HIV/AIDS; ability to work with diverse populations; non-judgmental attitude toward clients, staff and volunteers; ability to discuss sex/sexuality issues in an appropriate manner with clients; working knowledge of HIV/AIDS; Microsoft Office skills; valid Texas driver's license and proven driving record.

 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

Salaried exempt; part-time; some evenings and occasional weekends required; some local travel required.
