Today, AIDS Outreach Center (AOC) began as a grassroots organization responding to the HIV epidemic. Since that time, AOC has been a leader in North Texas in the fight against HIV. Annually, 42 staff members provide services and education to over 2,000 people living with HIV and prevention services to over 3,500 people in our community.

Our Mission is to serve people living with or at risk for HIV with dignity and respect.

In our community, people living will with HIV receive quality care, and new infections are rare.

The phlebotomist should have experience with people from communities of color and the LGBTQ+ population. Since HIV and STD prevention is our work, the tester will conduct testing via finger sticks and blood draws. Se busca hispanohablante.

 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate compassion for people, commitment to the mission, and value relationships. This role focuses on people of color, gay and bisexual men, transgender and non-binary individuals, and other community members. Some training is available for this position.

 

  • Provides testing, outreach, and education for HIV and STD prevention in English and Spanish.
  • Schedules and maintains appointments for testing.
  • Accurately completes required forms, lab requisitions, and additional written materials.
  • Collects finger stick and venipuncture specimens.
  • Makes in-house STD treatment appointments.
  • Performs data entry and preparation of monthly reports.
  • Follows universal safety precautions.
  • Performs as part of a team and maintains a positive attitude.
  • Provides sexual health education and screening regarding STD infection, transmission, prevention, and testing.
  • Participates in staff, training, and other meetings, as required.
  • Links clients to appropriate medical and social services, as appropriate.
  • Drives mobile testing vehicle on occasion for outreach events.
  • Participates in on-going trainings as needed.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6 months to 1 year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work with different communities, such as the LGBTQ+ population and communities of color.
  • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must speak, read and write in Spanish and English.
  • Must present self in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to work maturely with confidential information.
  • Able to prioritize and organize work under minimal supervision.
  • Able to learn to conduct tests by finger stick and blood draw.
  • Basic computer knowledge/literacy required.
  • Prefer some community college or higher education.
  •  
  • Must consistently demonstrate cultural sensitivity and willingness to work with all people, including those of diverse ethnic backgrounds and sexual orientations. Must possess a valid driver’s license; vehicle ownership with insurance required.
