The Head Archivist contributes to AHF by building and leading a comprehensive archival program that protects, preserves, and activates AHF’s institutional memory. Through strategic leadership and vision, the Head Archivist ensures that the organization’s records, stories, and historical materials are preserved with professional archival standards and made accessible to support advocacy, research, public education, and internal decision-making.


The Position Title enhances the reputation of AHF by developing long-term preservation strategies, implementing DACS-compliant processing and description, and stewarding both analog and digital collections, the Head Archivist strengthens  AHF’s ability to tell an accurate and impactful history of the fight against HIV/AIDS locally and globally. The Head Archivist oversees the lifecycle of archival material—from acquisition and appraisal through processing, digital preservation, and access. This role directs large-scale system migrations and integrations, such as transitioning assets into
ArchiveSpace and Preservica, ensuring sustainability, discoverability, and secure stewardship of AHF’s archival holdings. Establishing scalable workflows and supervising archives staff are central to creating consistent, reliable, and efficient practices across the department.

AHF has a collaborative organizational structure where staff are accountable to multiple leaders.

The Head Archivist will work as a part of a close-knit team to collaborate across departments including Public Health, Marketing, Communications, Legal, IT, and Executive Leadership in order to align archival initiatives with organizational priorities. Clear communication and partnership ensure archives are integrated into education, brand storytelling, policy memory, and mission-driven campaigns.
