Responsibilities

 

  • Sees patients in outpatient clinic setting (both new and follow-up) and inpatient as required.
  • Examines patient to determine general physical condition.
  • Orders or executes various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient’s condition.
  • Responsible for the timely upkeep of patient charts. New patients require complete H & P with generation of a problem list, data base form, and physical examination form. Follow-up patients require generation of progress notes and additions, if applicable, to the problem list.
  • Analyze reports and findings of tests and examination, and diagnoses condition.
  • Completes and documents treatment drugs.
  • Inoculates and vaccinates patients to immunize patients from communicable diseases.
  • Advices patients concerning diet, hygiene, and methods for prevention of disease.
  • Reports deaths and outbreaks of contagious diseases for governmental authorities.
  • Refers patients to medical specialists or other practioners for specialized treatment.
  • Performs medical procedures and minor surgeries including lumbar punctures, 1 & D of abscess, skin biopsies, bone marrow biopsies, treatment of condyloma via cryotherapy podophyllon application or tropical acid therapy.
  • Conducts physical examinations to provide information needed for admission to school, consideration for jobs, or eligibility for insurance coverage.
  • Will occasionally perform procedures on inpatients (e.g. abdominal paracentesis).

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 3 to 5 employees in the Healthcare Centers of Houses. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organisation’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include supervising nurse Practioners (NP) and Physician Assistants (PA) in the care and management of patients, consigning and reviewing NP and PA patient charts, supervising Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN) with regard to disposition of certain patient phone inquiries (i.e. whether a patient who phones in with a symptom requires to be seen that day), Supervising weekly medical meetings between site providers where a topic relevant to the management of HIV disease is presented to the staff and conducting weekly reading and interpretation of chest x-rays. .


Qualifications

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Medical Degree (M.D) related experience and/or training. Prior experience treating HIV positive patients.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Medical License. Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice.
