  • Preparation of samples and reagents for the various point of care tests performed in the laboratory including CD4, Chemistry, Hematology, and Microbiology  
  • To participate in stock management, balancing inventories, stock count and preparation of orders timely.
  • Collection of laboratory data and preparation of laboratory reports.  
  • To participate in the implementation of quality control and safety procedures
  • Ensure all lab results are delivered in time and are recorded in the necessary data bases for future references.
  • Ensures all client information is documented accurately on laboratory samples and on accompanying documents.
  • Ensures uninterrupted supplies of consumables by working closely with the Pharmacist to place orders on time.
  • Assists and communicates with medical staff concerning patient care issues (e.g.: confirm sample to be taken, patient results to be retrieved).
  • Performs phlebotomy to take samples from children, babies and adults.
  • Receives, checks and files results as instructed by Medical Director and/Nurse Clinician.
  • Follows up with relevant laboratory for results if not received.
  • Ensures prevention of medico hazards by complying with biosafety standards and infection control standards.
  • Packages and dispatches specimens to the National Reference Laboratory and/or PATHCARE Laboratory
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as necessary (i.e.: attendance at all assigned committees).


  • Degree or Diploma certificate in Medical Laboratory Science or Biomedical Technology
  • Phlebotomy skills or experience in blood collection techniques.
  • Experience or training/certificate in laboratory procedures such as Biochemistry, Hematology and TB sputum microscopy. 
  • At least 12 months experience in a medical environment is preferred.
