Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Plans and provides skilled nursing care to clients on an outpatient basis
  • Supervise activities of Nurses, Dispensers, Linkage coordinator Counselors, HIV Medics and ART Aides to ensure professionalism in delivery of work and continuous improvement in quality of services delivered.
  • Trains, mentors and coaches staff under her/his supervision with the overall aim of improving standards and quality of care.
  • Leads the implementation of protocols to improve triage, patient appointments management, pharmacy inventory management, linkage to care, adherence and quality improvement of nursing care.
  • Monitors and supervises the dispensing of drugs and prescription of drug refills by Nurses and HIV Medics
  • Charts notes and medication administration according to protocol.
  • Provides patient and family education and counseling
  • Coordinates nursing care to outreach posts in lower health facilities as planned by the site in-charges
  • Assists staff to inculcate and promote the practice and discipline of confidentiality
  • Ensures proper management of medical wastes and infection control procedures are maintained by all staff in the facility
  • Leads and coordinates meeting with the nursing team, counselors, and other lay providers and also participates in general staff meetings  once every month
  • Participates/leads CMEs for staff under supervision at least once every month
  • Maintains a management plan to ensure patients stay adherent  to their medication
  • Assists medical staff with examinations and procedures.
  • Consults with other team members on patient care and fosters team building.


Administrative responsibilities

  • Participates in human resource management including identifying of staff, ensuring adequate staffing, training, deployment, leave , appraisals and promotions
  • Participates in planning, budgeting coordination, monitoring of nursing services at the center
  • Ensures that all supervised staff adhere to professional code of conduct and ethics
  • Intercedes with difficult clients, resolves staff or client disputes, and assists with operational or procedural inquiries.
  • Participates in ensuring adherence to AHF financial policies, management philosophy and integrity of staff at the center.
  • Ensures that all equipment at the center is secure, functional and well maintained
  • Participates in requisitioning for drugs, equipment, sundries and other supplies for the facility
  • Monitors proper inventory and stock management for all drugs and supplies at the center
  • Ensures that the health center environment is kept clean and healthy.
  • Imparts knowledge and skills to staff and student interns/volunteers.
  • Performs delegated duties by the Medical Director, Program Nurse Manager and Regional Medical Director including the Senior Nursing officer.
  • Communicates with all medical providers to ensure that patients receive complete services in accordance with available policies and procedures
  • Coordinates case management and operational review meetings in order to ensure that the nursing team is functioning in accordance with policies, procedures, and program requirements

·      Coordinate patient services and referrals in accordance with case management protocols and procedures.

  • Participates in assessing and reporting data for Quality Improvement., ensures licensing for all nursing staff is up-to-date.
  • Attends to conferences as requested


Under guidance of the Nurse Manager, directly supervises HIV medics and carries out supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.




Must be double- trained at registered level or its equivalent from an accredited nursing training institution.

Should have a diploma in Nursing administration or its equivalent

Must be registered with the Nurses and Midwives council

Must have served for at least 7 years as a health worker, 5 years of which should be at senior nursing officer level



Must possess a valid practicing license and be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
