Job Summary

Pharm Techs role is to provide technical and management oversight at the clinic.  The major roles are oversight of pharmacy section of Clinic including planning, procurement and management. He/ She ensures standards of pharmacy practice are upheld in the clinic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans and forecasts for program drugs and medical supplies
  • Receives and verifies drugs and medical supplies delivered to the central stores
  • Participates in the procurement of drugs and medical supplies
  • Maintain stock, storing and handling it properly.
  • Maintain records, such as pharmacy files, inventories, control records for narcotics and controlled drugs
  • Ensures timely delivery and adequate stocks of drugs and medical supplies are available in the sites
  • Review prescriptions to assure accuracy and to evaluate their suitability.
  • Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage and proper medication storage.
  • Dispense prescriptions and provide additional support to the medical team
  • Compile reports
  • Attend and participate in team conferences as requested.
  • May act as a team leader to assist with the provision and supervision of patient care.
  • Serves as AHFs advocate at the site level





Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized Institution
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience of which one must be in HIV related field is required. demonstrable skills in the use of computerized/ electronic Logistics management systems is required. 
  • Registration by the Kenya Phamacy and Poisons Board
  • Minimum of at least 3 years experience providing clinical care
  • Prior experience treating HIV positive patients and familiarity with current HIV&AIDS, TB management practices and protocols
  • Experience in leading a team and building capacity in resource-limited settings will be an added advantage

  • Needs to be sensitive to patient population and issues surrounding HIV/AIDS
  • Pro-active approach and flexible attitude to work.
  • Flexible, self-motivating and ability to organize work independently
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Proficiency in use of information technology

Language Skills

Should have good written, oral and interpersonal communication skills of both English and Swahili.

Computer Skills

Must be skilled in using MS office applications such as M/S word, office, excel, and electronic logistics management systems

Mathematical Skills

Basic Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Highest Skills:  Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) and its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
