Under the general direction of the Senior Progam Manager, the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), utilizes independent judgment, performs both routine and complex laboratory procedures including: result reporting, quality control and quality assurance, equipment maintenance, and trouble shooting. The technologist may also function as a supervisor, educator and/or researcher of new test methods and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Medical laboratory technician will work in a moderately-complex clinical laboratory. At career entry, the MLT will be able to perform routine clinical laboratory tests done in hematology, immunohematology, microbiology, immunology and coagulation. The MLT must be licensed in the state of Florida in accordance to regulations outlined by the Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel. She/he will have gained basic laboratory skills required for entry-level positions in these and other emerging laboratory fields, such as molecular diagnostics. Education and/or Experience:
B.S. Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or with equivalent education/work
experience. Individuals qualifying for this position with an Associate’s Degree must have certification as either a Medical Laboratory Technologist or a Clinical Lab Technician (CLT). Certification status will be verified, determined and tracked by the laboratory.
Required – Bachelors of Science degree from U.S. accredited college or university
Required – Current Florida license as a Laboratory Technologist as outlined in 64B3-5.003 of the Florida Administrative Code
Required—Current licesure in the state of Florida as a Medical Laboratory Technologist
Required—Registry eligible, ASCP or equivalent. Successful completion of MLT registry within 6 months of eligibility of hire. Continuing education to maintain registry/licensure is required.
Preferred—MLT(ASCP) or equivalent. Registry/Licensure in a specialty area will be considered. Continuing education to maintain registry/licensure is required.
Required –Graduate of accredited school of Clinical Laboratory Science.
Preferred –1-2 years of experience as Medical Laboratory Technician
Computer/Software Skills & Abilities:
Basic knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
Familiarity with Abbott Architect i1000 prefered
Familiarity with molecurlar diagnostics plateforms
Familiarity with High Complexity CLIA laboratory requirements.
